Prezi Creation:

I have created a visual presentation that can be scrolled through by a viewer. It was created on a site named prezi.com. I have put the important details of the production in which will give the viewer an insite to what the animation will be about.

Product Pitch:

Scheduling:

I have looked into how long it takes to create different animations. Below is a table showing how long it takes to create different animations. The time shown is for the finished product.

Below are some videos that show how the animations were created. Videos including:
Frozen, SouthPark, Peppa Pig, and The Simpsons.

The schedule above shown the production schedule for an 85 minute long feature film.

Current Trends:

I think that my production will fit in with whats available at the moment. The characters are unique and will grab the viewers attention. There will be more series available if the first series goes well and receives good reviews. It has some elements of currents shows such SouthPark and Recess. For example both of the shows mentioned are set in a school. My production will start in a school and will then focus on the characters in their homes.

Overall, I think that the show will fit in with current shows but will offer something different for new viewers to watch and then continue to watch the show. I think the best channel for the show would be The cartoon Network. It has some shows likes this but i think that The School Teens will fit in well. The series will be shown every weekday at 5pm. This will be because the school children will be home from school and is a prime tv slot.

Carry on from the animation there will be some merchandise created. Items such as :

  • Character Figures
  • Feature Length Films on DVD
  • Stationary
  • Posters
  • Bags
  • Toys

Target Audience:

Target Audience:
Age group: 14-17
Gender - Mostly male viewers

Example:
Name: Reece
Aged: 16
Average day:
Reece's average day is travelling to college on the public bus. He arrives at college early to catch up with some work before his first lesson. After his first lesson his goes to the common room to meet up with his friends and to eat a snack. He travels home at 4 o'clock each day and gets home around 4:50.
Hobbies and Interests:
Reece enjoys playing snooker, football and pool in his spare time. He plays for his local football team and goes up the local snooker hall at weekends.
Spending power:
Reece has a Saturday job in pound land and earns £7.89 an hour. He works from 7am til 12. He also saves his money from his birthdays.
Media Consumption:
He likes to watch action films and some humorous animated series. He also likes to watch anything he takes a fancy to that is on the cartoon network.
At weekends he goes to his Dad's home and he uses his dads 27' iMac to play computer games on. He enjoys using his dads imac because of the incredible graphics that the mac offers.

Rio 2 Representations:

The writer of Rio 2 believes that the animation is problematic because of who its characters are represented. The characters who are supposed to be living in Rio and were born in Rio are voiced by white Americans. This will be confusing for the viewer as the viewer will be expecting a rather foreign voice instead of an American voice. Different colour skin has been represented incorrectly in the film. For example, the humans in Rio are darker skinned and the humans who live in other countries are more of a pinkie colour. This could have been corrected by more research and looking into real life stories.

American stereotypes:
In films such as Shrek and Transformers the African-American stereo types have all been the same. Rio 2 isn't much different. Every African-American stereotype is very much the same as in every other film.

PEPs:

Dr Charles Da Costa has written material on racial stereotyping in animation and it has the context of the portrayals in it and he calls it 'PEPs'. Problem contexts, entertainment contexts and performance contexts. Within PEPs blacks are associated with vexing circumstances says Da Costa. He also says "Strive to pacify, make others happy and be exceptional or extraordinary – far from 'normal'. Villainy, exoticism, jocularity and athleticism are common indicators of this malaise. Images of ethnicity do not need to be conveyed within the narrow scope of PEPs."

Da Costa thinks that the character design process is too quick. If the designs of characters were taken slightly more seriously the stereotypes may not be so in the face of the viewer. Also he thinks that the stereotypes in animation these days are safe. For example, the different races in the animations are simple and haven't been thought about fully.

Turbo:
In the film Turbo the voice of the white person's character goes further in life that the other characters that are voiced by the others such as people who are black or of other races. Overall, the white voiced american character goes further and achieves social mobility.

Legal and Ethical Issues:

In the table below I have written about some possible copyright, rating and representation issues.

Production Schedule:

I have created a production schedule to find out how much it will cost to produce 1 episode of the tv series. I have also listed all the members of the crew that will need to be paid during the creation process.

I have looked on a website that shows how the SouthPark episodes are created and I have tried to budget on how the SouthParks episodes have been created.

Voice Talent:

Voice Talent:

Dream Casting:

If money was no issue I would choose some experienced well known actors to be the voice of my characters:

Wally - If I could choose a voice to play the character of wally it would be the voice of David Jason. David Jason was the voice of Danger Mouse and the voice of Toad in The Wind in the Willows.

David Jason is also well known for playing Delboy in Only Fools and Horses and playing Inspector Frost in Frost.

Eric - For the voice of Eric I would choose the voice of Bill Fagerbakke. He is the voice of Patric in Spongebob Square Pants. He is also the voice of Lead and Ronnie Raymond in the 2008 Batman. He also did the voices for 8 characters in the Transformers cartoon movie. The characters were:
  • Bulkhead
  • Technician Man
  • Citizen
  • Hotshot
  • Master Disaster
  • Project Manager
  • Teller
  • Customer
  • Scientist 1
  • Patrol Man

George - For the voice of George I would choose Matthew Lillard. He is best known for being Shaggy Rogers in Scooby Doo. He has done in nearly every episode but there was one more actor in the first ever series. He has been characters for films such as The replacements, Karas and American Dad!

BBFC:

The BBFC is an in dependent, non-governmental body which has classified in cinema films. They also provide age ratings for the films released. The ratings are U, PG and 12A. BBFC are a designated body which means they have the legal powers to rate films and even cut or reject the work before released.

History of BBFC:

The BBFC was created in 1912 and was created by a group of members of the film industry. They manage their own censorship instead of the national or local government. This began on the 1st January 1913. The object was to create a company which could make their own judgements that were acceptable nationally. For this to take ahead the BBFC needed to earn the trust of the Parliament, the press and the public. It wanted to make sure all the films, were checked and up to standard.

The current Council membership consists of:

Graham Lee
Steve Jaggs
Sonita Alleyne
0Maggie Carver
Joanna Shaw
Jonathan Teckman.

Different Ratings:
The BBFC rate the films before they are released in the cinemas:
- U
- PG
- 12A
- 15
- 18

The rating for U and PG mean that anyone can go and see these films. Children don't need to be accompanied by an adult; they can view it with friends.  PG is a rating so your parents can think about weather this film is suitable for you, this is if you are younger then 8 or 9 years of age. The rating for 12A means your must be older then 12 to go and see them unless you have an adult with you. There are some films that are rated as a 15. These films normally included violence and sex references. Then there are 18 rated films which include violence, sex and sometimes drug use. Local councils who are in charge of the cinemas around the whole country have grew to accept the BBFC's decisions, even though from this day for the films shown in our cinemas, the council still have to power to ignore the decisions made by the BBFC.

Legal.
The BBFC have no legal power, the films have to be submitted for classifications to the council who have the final say for the certificates. For example a film maybe recommended to be a 12A but it may end up being rated at a 15. Not everyone will agree but each film has to have an official rating.

Coraline.
BBFC guidelines for junior categories notes that PG have some scary moments in the and may frighten younger children. Coraline arrived at the BBFC with a PG rating as it is based around a children's book and is a stop motion animation. At PG the BBFC guidelines allow some elements of horror as long as it meets the criteria which is there is not to many frightening scenes in the film. Not all parents agreed with the PG classification for Coraline but it could have been a 15 for horror and PG for language so the decision was made to give the film a rating of PG.

Final Design:

I created my design through Photoshop. I used the different sized brushed to create a black and white outline of my character. I then began to fill the black and white outline with colours. I tried out different colours to see what would look the best. After that i added a tattoo to make the character look strong. I also added soe purple to his large teeth and toe nails. This makes him individual and the viewers of the  show will remember him.
